New Packaging Design - a new book by Graven Images

24.08.09

Graven Images’ Creative Director, Janice Kirkpatrick, has a lifelong passion for packaging design. International publisher Laurence King invited her to share her insights, gained over 25 years in her work as a designer, tutor, curator, writer and broadcaster.

Over 90 projects from around the world are included in New Packaging Design and research was supported by Emma Murphy, also from Graven Images. Global companies who contributed to the book include Apple, IKEA and Comme des Garcons as well as niche businesses ranging from Swienty, who manufacture cages for Queen Bees to Ecopod, who craft environmentally-friendly coffins.

New Packaging Design challenges conventional definitions of packaging design and demonstrates how packaging it changed to meet the demands of our age. The book takes the reader behind some of the world’s best-known brands and introduces them to designers, clients, marketers, technologists, scientists,
environmentalists and retailers who reveal the hidden stories behind some the most remarkable packs of our time.

Showcasing the best packaging design from around the world, and including 192 pages and 302 illustrations including new colour photography, New Packaging Design also contains in-depth case studies, interviews and illustrations. The book was designed by Daniel Ibbotson, formerly of Graven Images.

The book will be published in September 2009.
